The Norman Longhorn Room
The brief for the Longhorn Room was to create a space which offers a communal dining experience and pays tribute to the original building structure through the exposure of original brickwork, windows and timber ceiling. The design intention was to complement the honest bones of the building. A neutral colour palette was adopted; timber flooring was installed as well as solid timber furniture and industrial feature pendant lights.
The key feature of the design was the ‘Kevätjuhla’ fabric, designed by Miina Äkkijyrkkä for Marimekko. This was stretched over a canvas frame to create a stunning feature wall.‘Kevätjuhla’ means Spring Festival in Finnish. The running calves and vibrant grass green background colour bring a definite energy to the room which complements the shared dining experience offered by the long bar/dining tables. The use of the running calves ‘Kevätjuhla’ canvas also respectfully adds to the existing beef industry tribute that is already paid by the Norman Hotel while the feature lighting draped over the long bar/dining tables and exposed brick walls create a wine cellar like, warm, intimate space.
